Ten people are dead and 15 are in hospital after multiple stabbing incidents in Saskatchewan on Sunday. Two male suspects remain at large and are considered armed and dangerous, said the RCMP in a late afternoon press conference.
The RCMP say they are investigating 13 locations in the communities of the James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon in Saskatchewan.
The two suspects are Damien Sanderson and Myles Sanderson. Sanderson is 31 years old male, 5 foot 7, 155 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Sanderson is 30 years old, 6 foot 1 and 240 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
“They are considered armed and dangerous,” said Rhonda Blackmore, the Commanding Officer of Saskatchewan RCMP.
“They are believed to be in a black Nissan Rogue SUV with Saskatchewan license plate 119 MPI. At this point, we don’t know if they have changed vehicles since [Sunday] morning. Their location and direction of travel are unknown. This is why we need everyone in the province to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity by calling 911 immediately.”
Blackmore says the attacks appear to be both targeted and random in nature.
“We are asking residents across Saskatchewan and our neighbouring provinces to be vigilant,” said Blackmore. “At this stage in our investigation, we believe some of the victims have been targeted by the suspects and others have been attacked randomly.”
In a statement released on Twitter, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the attacks “horrific.”
“The attacks in Saskatchewan [Sunday] are horrific and heartbreaking,” said Trudeau. “I’m thinking of those who have lost a loved one and of those who were injured.”
