Three people have been arrested in Shelburne and a heavy police presence continues while officers deal with an armed man who has barricaded himself inside a home.

It was around 5:40 p.m., Monday, when police say they were responding to the incident on Parr Street.

They shut down the roadway between George Street and Charlotte Street, while immediate neighbours were evacuated.

By 6 p.m., police say three people had been arrested including two who attempted to get in the house and the third who went in and left.

RCMP say they remain on scene trying to work toward a peaceful resolution.
