The NDP says the provincial government is failing women with massive wait times for mammograms.

Health Minister Michelle Thompson said on Thursday that it is concerning, and they are working to address the problem.

But NDP leader Claudia Chender says they have to do more.

“Because the reality is, they say they’re working on it. The work’s not getting done. From mammograms to cancer screenings to ultrasounds, we are challenged in every area of healthcare,” says Chender.

The province says there is a shortage of radiation technologists, which contributes to long waits, but they expanded the program a few years ago, and the first batch of the expanded class should graduate in 2027.

Chender says, something needs to change soon.

“This government needs to take health care for all Nova Scotians seriously. And the reality is, right now women are being left behind.”
