The Academy Awards are coming up this Sunday. Who will win the best picture? There are 10 nominees and Mrs. Ed and I as movie buffs sat down with popcorn to watch 9 of them. With the exception of the movie Drive My Car, which I haven’t seen yet, my favorite film to win is CODA. It’s short for Child Of Deaf Adults and features three deaf actors as the mother, father and son with the daughter as the only hearing member. A well told story with humor and tenderness. Available on Apple TV+.

Another contender is King Richard, the story of Richard Williams and the story of how he raised daughters Venus and Serena Williams to be two of the best tennis players in the world. Will Smith could win the Oscar for his performance.

Dune, the big-budget film directed by Canadian Denis Villeneuve and nominated for 10 Oscars. Streaming on Crave.

Disney+ added a couple, West Side Story, Steven Spielberg‘s musical remake and Nightmare Alley with Bradley Cooper.

The Power of the Dog, a possible winner for best director Jane Campion, and starring Benedict Cumberbatch is on Netflix as well as the comedy Don’t Look Up with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.

Another favorite Licorice Pizza from Paul Thomas Anderson, and Belfast, about life in troubled Northern Ireland in the 60s.
