Pet owners from Greenstone and nearby First Nations have the opportunity to get veterinary care over the next few days.

Matawa Animal Wellness Services has partnered up with Long Lake #58 First Nation, Ginoogaming First Nation, the Municipality of Greenstone, The Global Alliance for Pets and People, Northern Reach Network, and PetSmart Charities of Canada to put on a week-long clinic for spay/neutering and vaccinations for pets.

The Community Hall of Long Lake #58 First Nation is hosting the clinic until May 31.

The Global Alliance for Pets and People is providing a veterinary team for the campaign, who will also offer microchip implants, deworming, flea and tick treatments, and more.

Matawa expects more than 300 pets to be treated by the clinic.

In a statement, Indigenous Animal Wellness Specialist Judi Cannon with Matawa describes the region as a “veterinarian desert,” and says that “for too long, Matawa member First Nation communities have gone without veterinary care.”

Greenstone residents and members of Matawa First Nations can register for the clinic online.
