Two children face charges of theft and break and enter after a brief police chase outside of Nipigon.

Nipigon OPP were alerted to a stolen vehicle in the Lake Helen area around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. Officers later located the vehicle on Highway 11, but it did not stop. The vehicle was subsequently found in a gravel pit outside Nipigon, where police say the youths fled along a dead-end road before being located and arrested.

During the investigation, police say they found stolen property linked to a break and enter in Lake Helen from Monday.

The youths, aged 12 and 13, were charged with the following:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (two counts)
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Driving motor vehicle without a license
  • Break and enter
  • Theft over $5,000

The accused have been held in custody and will appear in youth court on Wednesday.
