It was a great night to celebrate the movies with the Oscars. Despite the one big event last night involving the slap, there were some highlights from last night’s ceremony, like 3 wins for fan favorite CODA. That included the win for Troy Kotsur, the first deaf male actor to win, 35 years after his co-star in the film Marlee Matlin became the first female deaf actress to win for her role in 1987 in the film Children of a Lesser God.
It was great to see the crowd sign their approval after he won. Director of the film Sian Heder won for best adapted screenplay, and CODA also picked up best picture. Check out the film, available on Apple TV+.
Other highlights included a tribute to the 60th anniversary of James Bond films, along with a win for Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell for best original song for the Bond movie No Time To Die.
Don’t forget a 50th anniversary celebration of The Godfather as well as a reunion with the film’s director Francis Ford Coppola, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.
An unforgettable speech from Ariana DeBose who won the best supporting actress Oscar for her role in Steven Spielberg‘s remake of West Side Story. She is the first Afro Latina, openly queer actor of color to win an Oscar and for the same role 60 years after Rita Moreno did it for the original.
