City Council will take a look at pay increases for Thunder Bay councillors at their next meeting.
They’ll examine the motion on Monday to decide whether to rubber stamp a hike in May just months before the municipal election, based on half of the rate of inflation.
A report from city staff on March 28th, showed in 2021, the base salary for a councillor was $33,589 which included a car allowance of $2,750.
With an approval, the average salary would jump to $44,997 and the increase would be retroactive to January 1st.
Last year, Thunder Bay’s Mayor received $126,528, including committee and board stipends and fringe benefits.
The rate of inflation in Thunder Bay was 2.35 per cent in 2021.
