Being over budget for 2022 forced the postponement of a couple of projects in the city of Thunder Bay.
Staff brought forward a motion to City Council on Monday night, recommending that reconstruction on Crown Street and watermain replacement work on Cumberland Street be pushed to the 2023 budget in order to address the $2.4 million shortfall.
Four of the contracts came in over what was budgeted while another included a reduced bottom line to mitigate budget impacts.
Another contract came in seven per cent under budget which has helped to offset some of the challenges.
Director of Engineering Kayla Dixon said the projects were deemed not urgent in nature, adding they will be treated as high priority in 2023.
Dixon added when it comes to the six approved contracts, that money has already been accounted for in this year’s budget.
