Earlier this week – a fundraiser for OUR KIDS COUNT started. The goal – to fill an 8 x 20 foot sea-can with non-perishable food items. In a matter of hours – not only did you respond with food, but also cash donations.

Over the course of 4 hours on Wednesday, OUR KIDS COUNT was set up outside of Equipment World Rentals on Roland Street. Thanks to Hartley SeaCan Sales & Rentals for providing the sea can. Plus, thanks to Halfway Motors Group for their support too.

The big thanks is to YOU. Thanks for stopping by in such a short period of time and donating food items, whether it was from your pantry or as some folks did – stop into the grocery store and pick up a few things, and drop them off. We had lots of businesses stop by with food and even cash donations. Someone stopped in with an anonymous $2,500 donation, along with food items. It was amazing! Thanks to Nikki from Nokiiwin Tribal Council who dropped off an S.U.V full of food items.
OUR KIDS COUNT has been around for 30 years. They’re a non-profit family resource centre, where children and families can access programs, connect with others and find support without cost, or judgement.

Judging by what we saw in a matter of hours – Thunder Bay truly has a giant heart. Over $7,500 in cash donations came in, along with non-perishable food items. The 8×20 sea can will be on location at Equipment World Rentals on Roland St until October 23.
