Water and wastewater professionals from across northwestern Ontario are in Thunder Bay for the 69th annual Northwestern Ontario Water and Wastewater Conference, taking place Thursday and Friday at the Delta Hotels by Marriott.

The annual event brings together water and wastewater operators, municipal representatives, industry suppliers, government agencies and other professionals to discuss emerging challenges, share knowledge and explore new technologies in the sector.

For more than five decades, the conference has provided technical training, professional development opportunities and networking for those responsible for delivering safe drinking water, treating wastewater and protecting the environment across the region.

“Water and wastewater professionals play an essential role in protecting public health and our environment, yet much of their work happens behind the scenes,” said Dr. Ian Morgan, executive board member and master of ceremonies.

Morgan said the conference continues a long-standing tradition of bringing industry professionals together to share expertise, strengthen partnerships and learn from one another.

The two-day conference features technical presentations, industry exhibits and opportunities for delegates to connect with experts and policymakers. Organizers say those discussions help municipalities stay informed about advances in treatment technology, changing regulations and industry best practices.

City officials note that reliable water and wastewater infrastructure is critical for healthy communities and long-term economic growth, with the conference highlighting the collaboration and expertise required to support development throughout Northwestern Ontario.

The 2026 conference is supported by the CEDC Tourism Development Fund, which helps fund the delivery of the longstanding regional event.
