TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD:
Over the weekend, The Royal Canadian Legion launched their annual POPPY CAMPAIGN…ahead of Remembrance Day. Every year millions and millions of Canadians wear a poppy – this is our visual pledge to honour Canada’s veterans to remember those who sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy TODAY.

The Legion gladly accepts donations – in any amount. All the donations are held in trust and directly support Veterans and their families. Make sure you get your poppy and wear it proudly….whether it’s from the corner store / the gas station / in front of a store. Put some change in the donation box – and get your poppy.

THUNDER BAY has an amazing connection to the POPPY. The idea came from Madame Anna Guerin of France. She got the inspiration from the poem “In Flanders Fields”. She presented her idea of a poppy campaign at a meeting in Port Arthur (of course, now Thunder Bay) in 1921 at the Prince Arthur Hotel. It was a meeting of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Great War Veterans Association. The POPPY was officially adopted for Remembrance Day later that Summer, 1921.
