There is notably a lot less water at Boulevard Lake.
Monday morning Acadia News went to the lake to confirm, and it does appear to be drained in the sense that what was supposed to be floating is no longer doing so.
The Splish Splash Water Park that is supposed to float is no longer able to, nor are the floating life guard stands.
Exposed in the water on the lake side is lots of rocks, natural debris and surprisingly not a lot of garbage close to the shore line.
In a statement, spokesperson Stacey Levanen said:
The City of Thunder Bay is working to recover water levels of Boulevard Lake. Overnight last night, the gates at Boulevard Lake were lowered without authority, causing the lake to drain.
The City recognizes that Boulevard Lake is important to community members, especially during the summer. Recovering water levels is a priority.
While the gates have been raised, it is not yet known how long it may take for water levels to recover. More information will be provided as it becomes available. In the meantime, an investigation into the circumstances of the lowering of the gates is under way.
This story will be updated with more info when it becomes available.
