An investigation continues to try and find those responsible for lowering 11 of the 12 gates at the Boulevard Lake Dam.

Officials discovered that they were dropped overnight on June 26th from the usual levels of between 211.5 and 211.6 Metres Above Sea Level (MASL) to 210.3 MASL, which is what it is usually set at during the winter time.

Kayla Dixon, the Director of Engineering and Operations, told Acadia News in an email Wednesday that “the environmental assessment report indicated that no dead fish were found around the perimeter of the lake or downstream of the dam as a result of the fluctuating water levels. Fish (minnows) that were found stranded in isolated pools were returned to the main flow.”

Dixon noted that the lake level returned to its previous operating level as of July 3rd.

The Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) as well as the Ministries of Environment, Conservation and Parks and Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry were all notified of the issue on June 27th.
