The Magnus Theatre is getting some major infrastructure upgrades.

The theatre will be expanding and upgrading it’s unique facility to better meet the needs of the community.

A new 125 seat Studio Theatre will be added, in addition to expanding the Production Shop and renovating the Lounge. All of these upgrades and installations will happen while maintaining the integrity of the heritage features of the Central School building.

Much of the renovations are also to help the building be “greener”, like taking out incandescent lighting and replacing it with LED fixtures. The School House windows will also be getting upgraded but will maintain their heritage integrity look on the outside of the building.

Funding these projects comes to the tune of 3.1 million dollars which is supported by FedNor, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund along with cash from Trillium Community Building Fund and Trillium Resilient Communities Fund.

Construction will start in November and last anywhere from a year up to 14 months.
