Lynn was born in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky, the daughter of a dirt-poor miner and rose to international stardom. She released her first single I’m a Honky Tonk Girl in 1960, followed by a string of Top 10 hits and her first number one country hit, Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin'(With Lovin’ on Your Mind) in 1966. The autobiographical song that she wore like a badge of honor, Coal Miner’s Daughter, spawned a book in 1976 and a well received biopic in 1980. Sissy Spacek won an Oscar for her portrayal of Lynn.
Many country artists expressed their condolences, including the Grand Ole Opry.
60 years of Opry membership, countless memories, songs and stories.
