Ontario’s government is investing some heavy cash flow into northern and rural communities for 2023.

The Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF) is the province’s main general assistance grant to municipalities, primarily supporting northern and rural municipalities.

The purpose of the funding is to help the municipalities that are adjusting to year-over-year funding changes based on community fiscal health.

For 2023, the City of Thunder Bay will be getting $20.7 million dollars from the grant, seeing an increase of almost $455,000 from last year. Other communities around the city will also see cash from the province including Oliver Paipoonge, Shuniah, Neebing, Conmee and Gillies.

Meanwhile, Kenora will be noting a small decrease in the amount they’re getting next year, a total of $3.018 million.

Fort Frances is also seeing less from the OMPF as they have been allotted $3.45M and so is Dryden. The province is awarding the community $2.14M for 2023.
