Expect to see more police walking and biking through the Waterfront business area, and the Bay and Algoma area, as well.
Thunder Bay constable Taxios Milionis tells us after hearing complaints about thefts of businesses and public drunkeness, they’ve decided to try it as a pilot project.
“Where we have engagement with people who need our assistance. We’ve partnered up with social navigators who are assisting us greatly in doing that engagement with our most vulnerable populations, connecting them to services they need,” says the constable.
Since the Community Oriented Response unit is dedicated to this work, the officer says this will not divert resources from other policing.
The constable adds they are working with the BIA, including through a survey.
