Thunder Bay Police say a 23 year old Thunder Bay man was shot and killed Sunday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex just after 3:30 p.m. to reports of possible shots fired.

There they located the victim, who has not been identified, with gunshot wounds. They were rushed to hospital by Superior North EMS but succumbed to their injuries in hospital just before 9 p.m.

The shooter has been identified as a 17 year old from Hamilton, who was taken into custody shortly after midnight Monday morning.

He’s been charged with second degree murder and remains in police custody.

They are expected to appear in court today.

The investigation has revealed the youth is on a firearms prohibition order as a result of a criminal incident committed in Southern Ontario.

Members of the Major Crimes and Forensic Identification Units are involved in the investigation, which remains on going and police continue to hold the scene.

A post-mortem examination is pending.
