Municipalities across northwestern Ontario have cancelled burning permits.

That includes the City of Thunder Bay.

The city says effective immedicatly, a ban on all outdoor open air burning has been issued.

The burn ban comes after the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry put a Restricted Fire Zone in place across much of northwestern Ontario as of midnight.

Cooking is still permitted on propane, natural gas or charcoal barbeques.

Propane and Natural Gas fueled fire bowls that are CSA approved are also permitted.

Any outdoor burning during the fire ban can result in fines and other penalties.
