The presenting council called their final two witnesses in the Anna Gibbon misconduct hearing.
First to be questioned Wednesday was His Worship Gord Chaput, who was involved in the case of Anna Gibbon’s son.
Chaput talked about the sticky note that has garnered so much attention thus far, believing it should not have been on the file. The note addressed that the case against the son had a conflict with Anna Gibbon being the Justice of the Peace.
Next Jessica Strobel was a court clerk and the one who wrote the message on the sticky note after realizing the case involved Gibbon’s son.
She went onto say Wednesday when conflict cases are recognized, it was a “loose guideline” at the time to place a note on the file such as she did.
Strobel also testified about bumping into Gibbon in March 2020 at a Safeway grocery store. This was the time period Gibbon was being first being investigated for misconduct, and Strobel had been questioned in relation to it.
Strobel testified that Gibbon got emotional over fear of losing her job amongst other factors, but never tried to persuade or seek help from her in the investigation.
Presenting council called three other witnesses over the course of the first and second days of proceedings.
The hearing will resume Friday, June 18, where it is expected that Eugene Bhattacharya will question his client, Justice Anna Gibbon.
If the panel upholds the complaint against Gibbon, she could face a range of punishments including a warning, apologizing, future education, suspension with or without pay, or a recommendation to remove Gibbon from office.
