Saint John police are trying to find a middle-aged man who is accused of impersonating a police officer.
It follows what police describe as a “suspicious” traffic stop on Route 1 near the Route 7 exit around 4 p.m. on July 26.
Police say a driver was pulled over by an unmarked older model dark Toyota Venza with a set of red and blue lights in the windshield.
“The operator approached the complainant, yelled at him about speeding, got back into his vehicle and drove off,” police said in a news release.
The driver is described as a man between 50 and 55 years old, weighing 180 to 200 pounds, with red hair and a trimmed beard with grey in it.
At the time of the incident, the man was wearing a ballcap, sunglasses and an orange plaid button-up shirt.
“Investigators have confirmed that the traffic stop was not initiated by the Saint John Police or any other policing agency in the neighbouring jurisdictions,” said police.
Community members are reminded that Saint John police officers are dressed in full uniform with a visible name tag on their uniform shirt, exterior vest or jacket.
Officers working in plain clothes will identify themselves and have a badge and police identification.
If something seems suspicious, police said you should call them at 506-648-3333, or 911 in an emergency.
