Health officials are warning you to stay away from a blue-green algae bloom at the swimming area of Hazelwood Lake Conservation Area.

The District Health Unit says they haven’t confirmed if it’s toxic, but still warns you not to swim there or drink the water, and keep your pets away as well.

A statement says even if the sample that’s being analyzed has safe levels of toxins, the algae at the lake could become toxic in response to its environment.

It says blue-green algae blooms can be toxic for up to two weeks after they appear to clear up.

It can be dangerous to you or your pet’s health to drink, inhale, or even touch the algae.
