The city of Thunder Bay again will not be holding any large, in-person gatherings this Canada Day.
This according to the city is due to COVID-19 restrictions that are currently in place, and out of respect for Indigenous communities grieving across the country.
As a substitute, organizers will be offering a range of self-guided and virtual activities that will take place between July 1-4.
Some of the activities that will be offered include science experiments, art projects, and scavenger hunts. In order to secure any of these, people interested need to register by June 26 at the latest.
The city worked in collaboration with Tourism Thunder Bay, Thunder Bay Museum, Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, le Club culturel francophone de Thunder Bay and Fort William Historical Park.
Patrick Morash is the Acting General Manager of Fort William Historical Park and is excited to be involved.
“Canada Day presents us with an excellent opportunity to reflect on the past, present and future of this country, and realize that when we work together we can accomplish outstanding feats that change the world, just as the Indigenous Peoples, Canadiens and Europeans of Fort William did over 200 years ago.”
