Lunenburg District RCMP is currently investigating a tragic incident that unfolded on the evening of October 20, 2023. An ATV crash on Hwy. 3 in Simms Settlement claimed the life of a 44-year-old Bangs Falls man.

At around 8 p.m. last night, authorities received a distressing report of an ATV collision. Lunenburg District RCMP, along with fire and Emergency Health Services (EHS), promptly responded to the scene. Preliminary findings suggest that a vehicle was traveling westbound on Hwy. 3 when an ATV suddenly crossed its path. In an attempt to avoid the oncoming ATV, the driver of the vehicle swerved, but a collision was inevitable.

The ATV, ridden by the 44-year-old Bangs Falls man, bore the brunt of the impact and ended up in a roadside ditch. Tragically, the driver of the ATV was pronounced deceased at the scene, marking a heart-wrenching loss.

A 54-year-old Greenfield woman, who was the passenger on the ATV, endured severe but non-life-threatening injuries and was expeditiously transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance.

Remarkably, the driver of the vehicle, a 39-year-old Sherwood man, escaped the collision without any injuries.

The investigation into this distressing incident is ongoing, and a collision reconstructionist has been dispatched to the scene. Law enforcement continues to collect evidence and piece together the events leading up to the fatal collision.

As a result of the accident, Hwy. 3 was temporarily closed for several hours to facilitate emergency response efforts and the subsequent investigation. Fortunately, it has since been reopened to traffic.
