RCMP are searching for a 61-year-old man in relation to an alleged assault with an axe in Thorburn.

John Douglas Cress is wanted in relation to the incident.

Police say Cress ran into the woods and a manhunt is underway.

He is described as 5’10, grey hair and blue eyes. He may be wearing a long sleeve grey sweatshirt and shorts.

Residents of the Thorburn area in Pictou County are advised to stay home and lock their doors.
