Synergy North has launched their redesigned Hit the Brakes. Not Us. campaign.
It asks people to drive safely and be aware when passing through roadside construction work this summer.
PR and Communications Director with Synergy North Lesley Rocco says while they can set up safety precautions, it’s up to drivers to slow down, and be aware of their surroundings.
“When we’re talking about roadside work and driving through work zones, we can put up roadside signs, we have traffic control people, we have protocols, but at the end of the day we’re counting on the drivers to abide by those rules, and that’s something we can’t control.”
Driving at unsafe speeds greatly affects a driver’s ability to react quickly in a work zone. Despite construction zones being clearly marked, drivers often ignore them.
Rocco says slowing down when passing through roadside construction is crucial, but there are other factors to be mindful of.
“We also ask that people that are driving not only slow down, but also be mindful of road signs.” explains Rocco, “So drivers will see road signs when approaching a construction area, just pay attention to those.”
The Director concludes by saying this campaign is all about safety for workers, drivers, and pedestrians.
“This is for the protection for both our roadside workers, and the community. At the end of the day, we want all our Synergy North employees to be able to go home safely to their family and friends.”
Construction work is already a dangerous job, even more attention to safety needing to be considered when workers are forced to share a space with passing vehicles.
