I’ve learned a lot about Thunder Bay and area in the last four years of calling this great community home.  Recently I learned that some folks call the township of Oliver Paipoonge… Olly Poo.  I thought if that municipality had a nickname maybe others did as well.  A few folks texted in…

Ronnie-“East end is also called the coal docks… because their used to be a coal distributor on the Kam river near the island drive bridge in the 40’s and 50s and60’s… Also the east end was called the other side of the tracks.”
Alex-“My friends and I spent our teenage years and now our adult years in Current River and have always referred to it as “The Hood.”
Riley-“We always call Atikokan the choke”
Jodi-“Used to live in the south Neebing area. We always called it Sneebing lol.  Also used to live in the municipality of Neebing. Often referred to as Neebs.”
Dan-“We bought property out in South Gillies a few years ago, and a friend of mine said your now a Gillbilly. I thought that was pretty funny.”
