More heavy rain and strong winds are in the forecast to start the week across parts of New Brunswick.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for western, central and southern regions, including:

  • Fredericton and Southern York County
  • Fundy National Park
  • Grand Lake and Queens County
  • Grand Manan and Coastal Charlotte County
  • Oromocto and Sunbury County
  • Saint John and County
  • St. Stephen and Northern Charlotte County
  • Stanley – Doaktown – Blackville Area
  • Sussex – Kennebecasis Valley and Kings County
  • Woodstock and Carleton County

Forecasters say light rain will begin overnight Sunday, intensify Monday evening and continue into Tuesday. The peak rainfall rates are expected on Monday evening.

Rainfall totals of between 25 and 50 millimetres are expected, with possibly higher amounts along the Fundy coast and southwestern regions.

Eastern New Brunswick, including Greater Moncton, will see between 10 and 20 millimetres by Tuesday morning, according to Environment Canada.

Meanwhile, a wind warning has been issued for coastal Charlotte County, including Grand Manan, where southerly wind gusts up to 100 kilometres per hour are expected between Monday morning and Monday evening.

Wind gusts of around 70 or 80 kilometres per hour are expected across the rest of southern New Brunswick, including Saint John, St. Stephen, Sussex and Greater Moncton.

NB Power said it is monitoring the storm and has crews ready to respond if outages occur. The utility encourages customers to have a 72-hour emergency kit ready.

A similar storm last week left more than 50,000 homes and businesses without electricity, some for several days.
