Hope for a cooler August following what was a hot and dry July in Thunder Bay.

Meteorologist with Environment Canada, Steven Flisfeder says at Thunder Bay International Airport, 10.1 millimetres of rain was recorded in July and while other parts of the city may have seen more, the average rainfall for this time of year is 89 millimetres.

The daytime high temperatures reached an average of 26 degrees in July.

When looking at August, Flisfeder adds, we’re expecting a cool down over the next week or so.

“Looking at the mid-20’s for daytime highs and then a decline later in the month to more fall-like temperatures,” he said.

The levels of precipitation for June were also below average, with 77 millimetres or rain recorded, still short of the monthly average of 86 millimetres for the same month annually.
