Shubenacadie Sam in Nova Scotia will be first to emerge from his den at around 8 am AT.

Wiarton Willie from Ontario will be next, along with Punxatawney Phil in Pennsylvania.

Other groundhogs include Balzac Billie and Fred la marmotte in Quebec.

If they see their shadows, folklore says, six more weeks of winter.

But if there’s no shadow, it’s an early spring.

In Nova Scotia, they’ll also be looking for a prediction from Lucy the Lobster.
