Environment Canada is advising residents of eastern mainland Nova Scotia and Cape Breton of heavy rainfall in the area with the potential for flooding, starting on Friday.

According to their advisory, we can expect a significant amount of rainfall along with strong winds.

Due to the frozen ground conditions, the soil’s capacity to absorb this rainfall is expected to be reduced.

Rainfall accumulation between 25 to 55 millimeters is projected from Friday evening to Saturday evening, with the potential for higher amounts in specific locations.

Furthermore, there will be gusty winds reaching speeds of 70 to 90 kilometers per hour.

EC Meteorologist Bob Robichaud says those in areas with significant snowfall still on the ground should clear any storm drains before the rains arrival on Friday, so as to help drainage.
