A suspect has been apprehended and taken into custody at the Thunder Centre after police responded to a weapons-related call.
Responding officers encountered a man waving an apparent handgun.
The Thunder Bay Police Service’s Emergency Task Unit and K9 Unit along with other officers responded and apprehended the male suspect.
A visible police presence is expected to remain in the area.
Members of the public are asked to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
The situation is located at the southernmost building in the plaza stretching from Popeyes to Planet Fitness, with the area behind the building closed off with police tape.
At least 15-20 police cruisers could be seen at the scene including members of the the TBPS Emergency Task Unit which is a full-time hostage rescue unit that provides tactical expertise during critical incidents, in addition to their regular duties, members of this unit are called on to conduct ground searches for missing persons, resolving standoffs, high-risk arrests and entry for search warrants.
