Halifax police have closed Gaston Road in Dartmouth as they respond to a man with firearm.

Police ask people to avoid the area.

There is a heavy police presence in the area, including K9 units, according to a police news release.

At about 9:20 a.m., police responded to e report of a man with a gun. Police say he was threatening people he knows and ran form the scene before police arrived.

Police describe the man as:

• white
• six-feet tall
• 170 lbs
• bald
• wearing a blue jacket and jeans

Police say they will release more information when it becomes available.
