Nishawbe-Aski Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police are looking into a sudden death in Poplar Hill First Nation.

Police say an infant in medical distress earlier this week was taken to a hospital in Winnipeg where they were pronounced dead.

No further details about how the infant became ill have been provided.

Members of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, Forensic Identification Services, Regional Support Team, and Major Case Investigation Team were called in to assist NAPS and their Crime Unit with an investigation.

No charges have yet been laid.
