A mid-afternoon power outage Friday left thousands of homes and businesses in Saint John without electricity.

Power went out shortly after 2 p.m. Friday to more than 14,000 customers in the west, east, north, and uptown areas of the city.

In a social media post, Saint John Energy said the outage was caused by a loss of supply from NB Power.

Crews quickly began switching customers and had power restored within a matter of minutes.

Meanwhile, NB Power is reporting more than 25,000 customers without electricity in the Fredericton region.

Most of the affected customers are in Fredericton, Oromocto, Hanwell, New Maryland, and Lincoln.

No word yet on the cause of that outage or when electricity will be restored.
