Day 9 of the Paris Olympics sees Canadians hoping to add to the country’s medal count.
In the 63.5-kilogram category of men’s boxing. Wyatt Sanford of Kennetcook, N.S., loses to Frances Sofiane Oumiha by a 4 – 1 favour, Oumiha moves on to the finals for gold, while Sanford claims a bronze medal.
He became the first boxer from Canada to win an Olympic medal in 28 years, the last Canadian boxer to appear on a podium was David Defiagbon winning silver at the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta.
Canada’s medal count is now at 16 – eight bronze, four silver, and four gold.
Earlier this morning, golfers Corey Conners and Nick Taylor started round 4 of Le Golf National.
Later in the day, cyclists Olivia Baril and Alison Jackson compete in the Women’s Road Race.
In the afternoon, both the Men’s and Women’s 4 x 100 medley relay swimming teams look for a medal.
In athletics, Rowan Hamilton and Ethan Katzberg take part in the Men’s Hammer Throw Final.
