Residents in downtown Halifax near Shirley Street could hear two loud booms, like cannons, before they lost power around 9:40 p.m.

Sirens followed as emergency services rushed to the scene.

However, as of 9:45, Nova Scotia Power estimated 115 customers were in the dark.

It’s unclear if the loud booms are related to the power outage.

Nova Scotia Power says they’re investigating.
