Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Kansas Ciry workers are off the job at this hour.
Around 9300 employees were locked out at 12:01 EDT today.
The Teamsters Union stated in a news release, that despite months of negotiations, the two sides remain far apart.
CN Rail says the union did not respond to another offer in a final attempt to avoid a labour disruption.
”Without an agreement or binding arbitration, CN had no choice but to finalize a safe and orderly shutdown and proceed with a lockout,” the company stated in a news release.
This is the first time ever trains from the two companies have stopped running at the same time, due to a contract dispute.
