For the third time in two days the Northwestern Health Unit is warning the public of a potential blue-green algae bloom.

The newest report is in Lulu Lake in the Unorganized Township of Pellat near Kenora. The blooms are currently being tested by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks, and while the results have not come back yet, people are asked to treat it as blue-green algae.

The Northwestern Health Unit is telling the public to not drink the water, swim in it, or use it for bathing or other household purposes. Boiling the water is not an option as it can increase the toxin levels.

People and pets should avoid the water and if contact occurs, wash with soap and water or rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove the algae.

It is recommended to wait at least two weeks after the bloom has disappeared before resuming normal use of the waters.

If you have questions please contact Northwestern Health Unit 1-800-830-5978 to speak with a public health inspector.
