The Salvation Army is offering its yearly Thanksgiving dinner to-go at its Cumberland Street location.

The Journey to Life Centre is providing a free takeout turkey dinner to those in need, with both drive-through and walk-up service.

The meal will be available from noon to 2 PM Sunday.

The Centre’s Executive Director Gary Ferguson says they are expecting to serve around 365 people.

The Thunder Bay Professional Firefighters Association has been helping prepare the annual meal for 24 years now, and Ferguson says they’re grateful for the help.

“We have so much to be grateful for in our lives, and we’re giving thanks,” he says. “There are many people, this time of year, who do not have much, so this offers that opportunity to help others.”

The firefighters were at the centre Friday to pitch in peeling potatoes and other tasks. The Salvation Army cooked 12 turkeys for this year’s meal, which Ferguson says requires “quite a bit” of time to pull off.

This will be the second year in a row that the Sally Ann has held their Thanksgiving meal as a take-out affair.
