A Thunder Bay Local has finished one of the world’s most famous races.
President of Confederation College Kathleen Lynch ran the Boston Marathon on Monday, with a time of 4:06. Lynch did qualify for the 2015 race, but was set back because of an injury making this experience so special.
“It was fantastic, the weather was great, the crowds were unreal, but it was a very hilly marathon,” explains Lynch. “While people tell you it is a hilly marathon, there’s nothing like the real thing, experiencing the real thing on your quads to realize this is a very difficult marathon.”

With her time, Lynch qualified again for the race but says she is unsure whether it is an experience she will take part in again.
“There are people that do it year after year, and I don’t know how they do it, some people have done it for many years,” says Lynch. “I guess never say never, but the chance to do it in the fall was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Now it will go back to the spring, and we all know what marathon training would be like in the winter in Thunder Bay so this was perfect for me.”
Lynch initially made it know she would take part in the Boston Marathon in May, and had a strong showing recently in the 2019 Twin Cities Marathon. The annual event is usually run in April.
