A mix of freezing rain, snow and ice pellets has caused cancellations and delays across Nova Scotia.

A freezing rain warning is expected to continue for most of the night in Central and Northern Nova Scotia.

The system arrived in the provinces’ southwest this morning, bringing snow before switching to freezing rain.

Environment Canada meteorologist Ian Hubbard tells us its expected to stop around midnight before temperatures plummet again.

“We’ll see a return to much cooler temperatures after this ends, along with windier conditions as the low moves away,” said Hubbard.

Driving conditions are expected to be poor into Friday morning with the cooler temperatures.

There’s already a collision on Highway 104 between exits 37 and 38 in Linwood, Antigonish County.

Halifax Stanfield International Airport encourages you to check your flight status if you’re travelling today.

An overnight parking ban is also in effect in Halifax.

Many municipal government offices are closed, lots of schools were cancelled along with classes at universities and colleges.
