There were no injuries after a structural fire on Machar Avenue.

Thunder Bay Fire sent three pumpers and a Platoon Chief to the building Friday evening, with the first crew arriving finding smoke coming out of the back door. Two more pumpers along with an aerial ladder were then sent to the scene. Crews brought a 45mm hand line to the back of the building and extinguished the fire shortly after.

When crews arrived, the tenants, along with their two children and dog, had already evacuated the building and a search later showed no other people were inside.

The cause of the fire was electrical from a ceiling bathroom fan that malfunctioned, overheating and causing the bathroom to catch fire.

In total six pumpers, one aerial ladder and one command unit with a Platoon Chief responded.

Thunder Bay Fire is reminding homeowners about the importance of working smoke alarms and their ability to save lives.
