Marathon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision Saturday night between a pickup truck and tractor trailer.
It occurred on Highway 17 about 30 kilometers west of Marathon near Little Pic River.
When officers arrived, they found the tractor trailer in a ditch and a GMC truck in the opposite lane against the guard rails. The only person in the truck, 69-year-old David Hamilton of Schreiber was pronounced dead on scene.
The driver and passenger in the tractor trailer were taken to a local hospital for minor injuries and later released. The driver of the tractor trailer, Prabhjot Cheema of Brampton ON has been charged with dangerous operation causing death. The next court appearance will be in January.
Highway 17 was closed from Terrace Bay to Marathon for about 14 hours while OPP investigated. The investigation is ongoing, and you should expect delays in the area.
The public is being asked to use caution, respect the signage, and please slow down while traveling through the area until the vehicle removal and cleanup is completed.
