High school students will be back to four courses per day in Thunder Bay early next week.

In a release Tuesday, officials with both Lakehead Public Schools and the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board (TBCDSB) say the timetabling model makes its return on Monday, November 29th.

“Health and well-being is of utmost importance for our staff and our students,” said TBCDSB Director of Education Pino Tassone. “The additional time within the same classroom has been challenging for all, and the sense of normalcy is welcomed for both parties. We’re really looking forward to our students having a traditional high school experience where they can excel.”

Local Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Janet DeMille, has indicated that current epidemiology in the Thunder Bay District Health Unit supports a safe transition to conventional timetabling in advance of February 2022.

“We are pleased to be able to provide our secondary students with a semester system that is advantageous for students and staff, conducive to success, and one with which families are familiar,” said Ian MacRae, Director of Education for Lakehead Public Schools. “We continue to consult with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to ensure that the safety of our school community from a COVID-19 perspective remains optimal.”

Further information for students, parents and guardians will be made available via their school email, social media pages and websites.
