Thousands remain without electricity after high winds tore through the province on Sunday.

NB Power says around 9,100 homes and businesses were without power as of 8:30 a.m. Monday.

That was down from a peak of more than 33,000 customers at one point early Sunday evening.

“In total, about 57,000 customers were affected by the weather event,” the utility said in a social media post Monday morning.

Most of the outages are in western and northeastern New Brunswick, according to the utility’s website.

NB Power said it could be midday Tuesday before all customers have their electricity restored.

“We currently have around 500 people supporting the restoration efforts,” said the social media post.
