The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) has issued a flood watch for much of the Thunder Bay area.

Thunder Bay, Neebing, Oliver Paipoonge, Shuniah, O’Connor, Conmee, Gillies and Dorion are under the watch.

The LRCA is advising that 25 millimetres of rain is forecasted through Monday.

They added that there is also potential for thunderstorms producing an additional 10 to 25 millimetres of precipitation.

According to the conservation authority, there is still snow in some areas of its jurisdiction, and the ground is not completely thawed.

The public is being advised to exercise extra caution in and around waterways.

Parents and caregivers are advised to keep pets and children away from all waterways.

A Flood Watch is issued when the conditions indicate that the potential for flooding exists.

Authority staff will continue to monitor conditions as part of its flood forecasting and warning program.

The flood watch is in place until 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
