A moment of silence was held in the House of Commons on Wednesday night, as MP’s stood in memory of Marc Garneau.

He passed away on Wednesday at the age of 76.

Garneau was the first Canadian to go into space, who also served as a politician from 2008 to 2023.

He made his first trip into space in 1984, but flew on three space shuttle missions.

His wife Pam Garneau released a statement on social media that said, “He passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family.”

More to come…
