Thunder Bay has a busy roadwork schedule upcoming in June and July.
The city is investing roughly $55 million in infrastructure work, including road and sidewalk repairs, this year.
During construction, drivers can expect road closures and lane reductions.
College Street is set for a closure expected to last roughly a week between Herbert Street and Van Norman Street.
The city has not announced a start date for the work.
Meanwhile, work is underway on MacDonell Street between Central Avenue and Squire Street.
The city is installing new storm sewers and completing paving work.
The work is expected to be complete by mid-August.
There are also multiple sidewalk and pedestrian crossing projects on the schedule, including:
- Sidewalk removal – Gore Street West from Centre Avenue to Euclid Avenue – South side of the street
- Sidewalk removal – Euclid Avenue from Gore Street West to the dead end – West side of the street
- Sidewalk replacement – Moodie Street East from Ford Street South to Edward Street South – North side of the street
- Sidewalk replacement and streetlight upgrades – Marlborough Street from Beresford Street to Bay Street – East side of the street.
New pedestrian crossings are also being installed at the Tupper Street and High Street South intersection, as well as on Golf Links Road and Hodder Avenue, and Lilian Street.
Other notable projects include the ongoing Cumberland Street closure between McVicar Street and Tupper Street.
This project is expected to last 12 to 14 weeks.
Rolling closures are returning to Simpson Street as road rehabilitation gets back underway for the season.
Work on Red River Road is nearing an end, and over the next few weeks, final tree and plant installations are scheduled to take place.
Work around the Victoriaville Centre is also getting underway on Monday, and the Archibald Street and Victoria Avenue intersection is going to be closed until October 2026.
Pedestrians also have some other infrastructure improvements to look forward to.
New pedestrian bridges are being installed on Central Avenue near Tungsten Street and Alloy Drive as way as near Clayte and Hartviksen Streets.
